About Caerlaverock Cottages

Caerlaverock Cottages is a group of self-catering holiday properties in South West Scotland. With a portfolio of five properties, each one is located in or around the Caerlaverock Nature Reserve, one of the UK’s most diverse areas of wetland.

Family run, we pride ourselves on providing a home away from home. Situated in Dumfries and Galloway, our cottages provide the perfect base for your holiday. Whether you’re looking for adventure activities, arts and culture, or a holiday by the sea, our region has plenty to offer.

The local area

There is plenty to see and do around Caerlaverock and further afield.

The WWT at Caerlaverock is a fantastic spot for nature lovers. The Wetland Centre itself is made up of 1,400 acres, situated on the north Solway coast, and is home to a spectacular variety of wildlife. Autumn is a particularly good time of year to visit, as thousands of birds such as geese and swans arrive back at Caerlaverock to take advantage of the expansive salt marshes, tidal pools and grazing land in the sheltered surroundings in the Solway Firth.

The historic market town of Dumfries is just on our doorstep with a full range of shops and places of interest. With links to Robert Burns and JM Barrie, there’s plenty on offer for literary fans of all ages.

Fun for everyone

Dumfries and Galloway fully caters for a range of outdoor pursuits, be it fishing, golf, mountain biking, walking and star gazing. While visiting the area don’t forget to see the wonderful sandy beaches and rugged cliffs that make up the dramatically contrasting Solway Firth coastline.

There is easy access to the coast and forests including Mabie Forest mountain bike trails and walks across Caerlaverock Estate and nature reserve. The area has excellent salmon fishing on the river Nith, wild fowl on the National Nature Reserve and excellent golf courses at Dumfries and slightly further afield to the links championship course at Southerness.
